Nightwing casting, Alien franchise in trouble, Thor: Ragnarok opens huge and more – Daily News Roundup

November 7, 2017 by admin

NIGHTWING CASTING RUMOURS

There was a rumour going around over the weekend that Stranger Things star Dacre Montgomery had been cast as Nightwing in the DC solo movie, however the film’s director Chris McKay has taken to Twitter to say that casting for the movie hasn’t gotten underway yet. “We haven’t started the process of casting Nightwing yet but when we do you’ll hear something because our search will be far and wide,” he wrote. Read more here.

TOP GUN CASTING RUMOURS

Some more casting news now from the long-awaiting sequel Top Gun: Maverick with The Hashtag Show (who don’t have a great track record) claiming they have the inside scoop on the character descriptions – including the son of Goose. Read more here.

THE BEAST HAS RUN OUT

With Alien: Covenant being perceived as a box office and critical failure and the divisive nature of Prometheus, Ridley Scott has spoken with The Hollywood Reporter about the future of Alien franchise. “I figured it was a good piece of business to follow through Prometheus, which, from the ground zero, had good lift up,” Scott said. “So we went to Covenant to perpetuate the idea and [revive] the franchise of Alien. However, I think the beast has run out, personally.” Read more here.

STEP BROTHERS 2

Speaking of potential sequels, and Will Ferrell has spoken with New York Daily News about the possible follow-up to the 2008 comedy Step Brothers – and what eventually killed it. “We had a whole story where John and I follow our parents to live in a retirement community and try to convince them that we earned the right to retire as well,” he said. “The sequel thing is so funny because, we decided obviously to go down the road with Anchorman, and we made what I thought was a really great sequel, really funny. The entertainment media and fans beg you, and beg you, and beg you for sequels, and then you make it and you definitely have a fraction that’s like, ‘Well, not as good as the first one.’ So I guess it’s a catch-22. It’s a nice catch-22, because people love the movies in the first place.” Read more here.

THOR OPENS BIG

Some great news for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with Thor: Ragnarok opening to an impressive $121 million domestic box office. It’s outperformed Spider-Man: Homecoming, but did fall short of Guardian of the Galaxy Vol. 2‘s $146.5 million. How will Justice League fair against it when it opens in a couple of weeks? Read more here.

FREED
