Nintendo reveals a bunch of Super Smash Bros Wii U modes

During the Super Smash Bros for Wii U Nintendo Direct, Nintendo revealed a myriad of new modes for the game, including some old favourites…

Firstly, Classic Mode is of course making a return, but is considerably different from any previous iteration. Unlike the 3DS game, where Classic saw you choosing from numerous branching paths before reaching the Final Destination, the Wii U’s Classic Mode has you competing and progressing based on how well you survive each battle. Not only that, but you’ll have to compete with a rival and fight off random challengers. To top it off, Classic Mode is now playable with two people!

All-Star mode also returns – but like Classic Mode, it’s received something of a twist. Where you would usually battle every character in the game, starting with those whose games were released first and ending with the most recent characters, the Wii U’s version of All-Star mode flips that on its head, meaning your final battle will be against retro legends! Again, All-Star mode is also now co-operative too!

Event Mode returns! Lots of players were unhappy about the exclusion of Event matches in Smash 3DS, so it’s nice to see it make a return. Event Mode revolves around specifically themed battles and can also be played with two players.

Target Blast is also coming over from Smash 3DS and Nintendo also revealed a brand new mode called Smash Tour – a sort of Mario Party style board game, which seems to be the replacement for Smash Run.

Special Orders is a new mode also revealed, featuring two different modes in itself! Master Orders and Crazy Orders see you completing specific tasks for the two infamous villains in order to face them at the end and earn prizes.

A new and vastly improved Stage Builder was also revealed, allowing you to use the Wii U GamePad’s stylus to draw stages, giving you considerably more freedom in designing and creating stages.

That’s not all though, with coin and stamina battles also returning to the game. There’s an insane amount of content already in Super Smash Bros for Wii U and hopefully we’ll get even more information in the future.
