Obi-Wan Kenobi series will begin filming in Spring 2021 and will be a standalone season, says Ewan McGregor

September 11, 2020 by Liam Waddington

Earlier this year, Disney and Lucasfilm announced the Obi-Wan Kenobi series was pushed back until next year for a “retooling” of the project, with the studio targeting a 2022 premiere date for the live-action Star Wars series.

Now, in an interview with Entertainment Tonight, star Ewan McGregor revealed the studio is aiming to start filming in Spring 2021 and as far as he is aware, it will be a standalone season.

“Spring next year we start, so I’m really excited about it,” McGregor said. “I’m super excited about it, it’s going to be great I think. There’s no talk of [a second season] it’s pretty much as I understand it a standalone season. But we’ll see, who knows?”

While exact plot details are currently being kept under wraps – besides the series set in-between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope – we do know the series has recently enlisted Joby Harold (King Arthur: Legend of the Sword) to serve as writer, having parted ways with Hossein Amini (The Alienist) due to creative differences. The Mandalorian director Deborah Chow is still attached to direct the project with Ewan McGregor back as Obi-Wan Kenobi after 15 years.
