Paramount levels up with Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and a Knuckles TV series

February 16, 2022 by Matt Rodgers

Paramount are throwing as many gold rings as possible at their Sonic the Hedgehog cinematic universe with the news that not only has Sonic the Hedgehog 3 already been greenlit, but we’re also getting a Knuckles Paramount+ spin-off starring Idris Elba.

Sonic the Hedgehog made $300M at the worldwide box-office, becoming one of the last pre-pandemic box-office success stories, and so Paramount are hoping to pick up where they left off.  The announcement of Sonic the Hedgehog 3 was made at a Viacom Investor Event by the President and CEO of Paramount Pictures & Nickelodeon, Brian Robbins.

That wasn’t the only piece of Sonic related news he had to give, because he also announced that one of the sequel’s newest avatars, Knuckles the Echidna, who is voiced by Idris Elba in the film, would be getting his own spin-off series that is set to premiere on Paramount+ in 2023.

The world’s favorite blue hedgehog is back for a next-level adventure in SONIC THE HEDGEHOG 2. After settling in Green Hills, Sonic is eager to prove he has what it takes to be a true hero. His test comes when Dr. Robotnik returns, this time with a new partner, Knuckles, in search for an emerald that has the power to destroy civilizations. Sonic teams up with his own sidekick, Tails, and together they embark on a globe-trotting journey to find the emerald before it falls into the wrong hands.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is directed by Jeff Fowler and sees Ben Schwartz returning to voice Sonic alongside Jim Carrey (Dr. Robotnik), James Marsden (Tom Wachowski), Tika Sumpter (Maddie Wachowski), Idris Elba as the voice of Knuckles, Lee Majdoub as Agent Stone, and Colleen O’Shaughnessey as the voice of Tails.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 will race into cinemas on April 8th.
