Paramount teaming with Platinum Dunes for Friday the 13th

June 12, 2013 by admin

It was revealed last week that Paramount and Warner Bros. had come to a deal which gave Paramount the movie rights to Friday the 13th and South Park (with Warner covering half the costs of either movie) in exchange for 50% of Chris Nolan’s Insterstellar. Well, Bloody Disgusting are reporting that Paramount are also getting into bed with Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes to fast track the movie into production.

Speaking at the premiere of Adam Green’s Hatchet 3, the website spoke with Derek Mears, who played the iconic Jason Voorhees in the 2009 remake, who said, “I spoke to Brad Fuller and he said that the rights are, as everyone knows, over at Paramount and they’re pushing hard. They’re going we want [a new Friday The 13th movie] as fast as possible.”

While nothing is confirmed of course, Brad Fuller’s involvement would indicate that Platinum Dunes are back on board with Crystal Lake’s killer.

When asked if he’d put on the hockey mask again, Mears said, “I know they [Platinum Dunes] like me… look, even if I’m not a part of the series, as a fan I just want to see more.”

Should this all be true, it would seem weird for Michael Bay’s production team to jump back into this world considering that Bay walked out of the premiere of the 2009 movie…
