Patty Jenkins says she only reshot one scene for Wonder Woman

June 8, 2017 by Gary Collinson

In the build up to the release of Wonder Woman, director Patty Jenkins revealed that the final cut of the DC blockbuster was almost identical to what she originally shot, and that very little changed from her rough cut during the post-production process. However, it seems that we did get one extra scene during the reshoots, with Jenkins telling THR that she decided to add a single sequence during Diana’s march towards the front lines.

“I wanted to ramp that tension as much as possible, and unfortunately, we didn’t have it,” said Jenkins, who became the first female director to have a movie open with over $100 million at the domestic box office. “That scene was just a slightly tense scene of them walking. I was like ‘I need her to see some brutality.’ So, we added her seeing the horses being whipped. It was actually something that had been in the script originally. We replaced that one scene with a reshot scene, and we didn’t change the order of a single scene. So what you saw is exactly the movie that we were always making.”

It’s certainly refreshing that in an age where extensive reshoots are commonplace – see the latest reports on Justice League – that Wonder Woman managed to buck the trend, and certainly debunks any of those wild rumours from last year suggesting Warner Bros. “insiders” had written the film off as “another mess”.

Before she was Wonder Woman, she was Diana, princess of the Amazons, trained to be an unconquerable warrior. Raised on a sheltered island paradise, when an American pilot crashes on their shores and tells of a massive conflict raging in the outside world, Diana leaves her home, convinced she can stop the threat. Fighting alongside man in a war to end all wars, Diana will discover her full powers…and her true destiny.

Wonder Woman sees Patty Jenkins (Monster) directing a cast that includes Gal Gadot (Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice), Chris Pine (Star Trek), Connie Nielsen (Gladiator), Robin Wright (House of Cards), Danny Huston (X-Men Origins: Wolverine), David Thewlis (The Theory of Everything), Ewen Bremner (Snowpiercer), Said Taghmaoui (American Hustle), Elena Anaya (The Skin I Live In), Lisa Loven Kongsli (Force Majeure), Lucy Davis (Shaun of the Dead) and Ann Wolf.
