Peaky Blinders creator confirms a movie is on the way

January 20, 2021 by George Nash

After teasing earlier this week that “the story will continue in another form” when the show ends after its sixth season,” Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight has confirmed that the hit BBC crime drama will conclude with a film.

“My plan from the beginning was to end Peaky with a movie,” Knight revealed to Deadline on Tuesday. “This is what is going to happen,” he added.

Fans of the BAFTA-winning series, which stars Cillian Murphy as the head of a Birmingham crime family in post-WWI Britain, also welcomed the news that the show had resumed filming after being halted since March last tear due to the on-going global health crisis.

“The safety of our cast and crew is always our priority,” said series Executive producer Caryn Mandabach, who also thanked “all the Peaky fans who have been so unwaveringly supportive and patient”.

Speculation about a Peaky Blinders movie has been circulating for a while after Knight, an Oscar-nominated screenwriter, previously revealed that he had been approached to take his show to the big screen. Unsurprisingly, he has remained tight-lipped about his plans for the film, and any details relating to cast and plot have not yet been revealed.
