Peaky Blinders movie will start filming in 2023, confirms creator Steven Knight

October 8, 2021 by Liam Waddington

Earlier this year, Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight confirmed that the upcoming sixth series of the hugely popular BBC series will be the final series but the story will continue in film form.

Now, during a panel at the BFI London Film Festival (via Variety), Knight not only confirmed that the final season is currently in the editing process and will release in Spring 2022 but the upcoming film is set to begin filming in 2023 and will feature the conclusion of the story of the Shelby family.

“And then I am going to write the feature which will be set in and shot in Birmingham,” Knight said at the panel. “And that will probably be the sort of the end of the road for Peaky Blinders as we know it.”

The award-winning series began in 2014 and follows the rise and growth of the Peaky Blinders gang led by Tommy Shelby (Cillian Murphy) during the first half of the 20th Century in Birmingham, England.

Peaky Blinders also stars Helen McCrory (Skyfall) as Polly Gray, Paul Anderson (The Revenant) as Arthur Shelby, Sophie Rundle (Bodyguard) as Ada Thorne, and Finn Cole as Michael Gray. New cast members include Anya Taylor-Joy (The Witch) as Gina Gray, Brian Gleeson (Phantom Thread) as Jimmy McCavern, Neil Maskell (In Darkness) as Winston Churchill, Sam Claflin (The Nightingale) as Oswald Mosley and Stephen Graham (Boardwalk Empire).
