Pedro Pascal confirmed as playing Maxwell Lord in Wonder Woman 1984

October 24, 2019 by Amie Cranswick

More than a year after dropping a first look image of the Narcos and The Mandalorian star in character, Wonder Woman 1984 director Patty Jenkins has now confirmed that – as we speculated back in July 2018 – Pedro Pascal is portraying the villainous Maxwell Lord in next year’s DC Extended Universe sequel.

Jenkins made the announcement on Twitter, posting a picture of Lord with the caption “Well hello… Max” and tagging Pascal.

Lord made his comic book debut back in 1987, and is a successful and megalomaniacal businessman who possesses the ability to telepathically influence people’s minds and even fully take control of them. While his involvement in the plot of Wonder Woman 1984’s remains a mystery at this point, a previous rumour had suggested that “his mission in the film is to become a god himself using any means necessary.”

Wonder Woman 1984 reunites director Patty Jenkins with stars Gal Gadot (Diana Prince), Chris Pine (Steve Trevor), Ewen Bremner (Charlie), Said Taghmaoui (Sameer), Connie Nielsen (Queen Hippolyta), Robin Wright (General Antiope), Lisa Loven Kongsli (Menalippe), Doutzen Kroes (Venelia) and new additions Kristen Wiig (Ghostbusters) as Barbara Ann Minerva/Cheetah, Pedro Pascal (Game of Thrones) as Maxwell Lord, Natasha Rothwell (Love, Simon), Ravi Patel (Master of None, Grandfathered) and Gabriella Wilde (Doctor Who, Poldark) in an as-yet-unrevealed roles. It is set for release on June 5th 2020.
