Peter Capaldi to exit Doctor Who after series 10

January 31, 2017 by Gary Collinson

Peter Capaldi has announced that he’s following in the footsteps of showrunner Steven Moffat by stepping down as the Doctor following the upcoming tenth series of Doctor Who.

“I feel it’s time to move on,” Capaldi told the BBC. “I feel sad, I love Doctor Who, it is a fantastic programme to work on. It can’t praise the people I work with more highly, but I have always been someone that did a lot of different things.”

Capaldi, who became the Twelfth incarnation of the Time Lord in 2013, has revealed that he’ll make his exit in this year’s Christmas Special.

“Peter’s amazing, fiery, turbulent Doctor is still fighting the good fight, and his greatest adventures are yet to come,” added Steven Moffat. “Monsters of the universe, be on your guard – Capaldi’s not done with you yet! Like Peter, I’m facing up to leaving the best job I’ll ever have, but knowing I do so in the company of the best, and kindest and cleverest of men, makes the saddest of endings a little sweeter.”

Series ten of Doctor Who is set to get underway in the Spring.
