Producer Jason Blum would love to make more Universal Monsters movies

February 27, 2020 by Liam Waddington

With the imminent release of The Invisible Man in theatres, producer Jason Blum has expressed interest in making more movie reboots based on Universal’s catalogue of monsters.

In a recent interview with Bloomberg, Blum noted he would love to make more monsters movie and has had a non-serious conversation with Universal regarding any available monsters.

“I would love to,” Blum said when asked about developing more monster movie projects. “I’ve had some version of this conversation. Not a serious one. I would say to Universal, ‘What monsters are available that I could play around with?’ I would send those things to our seven favourite filmmakers. But I’m not going to talk to Universal until The Invisible Man comes out.”

With all progress on Universal’s Dark Universe on hold and looking unlikely to return right now, Blumhouse Productions focusing on singular, isolated movies could be a good path for future monster movies.

Trapped in a violent, controlling relationship with a wealthy and brilliant scientist, Cecilia Kass (Moss) escapes in the dead of night and disappears into hiding, aided by her sister (Harriet Dyer, NBC’s The InBetween), their childhood friend (Aldis Hodge, Straight Outta Compton) and his teenage daughter (Storm Reid, HBO’s Euphoria).

But when Cecilia’s abusive ex (Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Netflix’s The Haunting of Hill House) commits suicide and leaves her a generous portion of his vast fortune, Cecilia suspects his death was a hoax. As a series of eerie coincidences turns lethal, threatening the lives of those she loves, Cecilia’s sanity begins to unravel as she desperately tries to prove that she is being hunted by someone nobody can see.
