Red Sparrow production designer joins Marvel’s Black Widow solo movie

May 29, 2018 by Gary Collinson

It may not have a director yet – with Marvel said to have met with over 65 potential filmmakers, including Deniz Gamze Erguven (Mustang), Chloe Zhao (The Rider) and Amma Asante (A United Kingdom) – but it seems the studio is already starting to assemble the crew for its Black Widow solo movie.

According to Omega Underground, Marvel has hired production designer Maria Djurkovic, whose past credits include Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, The Imitation Game, The Snowman and Red Sparrow – the latter of which initially drew comparisons to the character of Black Widow due to its story of a female Russian intelligence operative, played by Jennifer Lawrence.

The Black Widow movie is being scripted by Jac Schaeffer (The Shower), and will reportedly serve as a prequel to Iron Man 2, exploring the origin of Scarlett Johansson’s Natasha Romanoff. If rumours are to be believed, there’s also apparently been early discussions about including Sebastian Stan’s Winter Soldier as part of the cast.
