Renée Zellweger latest to join Only Murders in the Building season 5

March 29, 2025 by Ricky Church

Just a week after Christoph Waltz joined the cast of Only Murders in the Building for its upcoming fifth season, the series has now announced another new addition with Bridget Jones star Renée Zellweger set to star alongside the main trio of Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez.

The news was revealed on Instagram in a post parodying Marvel’s method of announcing the cast of Avengers: Doomsday, with the actress’ name on a black set chair. Her role is being kept under wraps, but she joins fellow newcomers Waltz and Keegan-Michael Key with Téa Leoni expected to return after her brief cameo in the fourth season finale.

Zellweger recently returned to her iconic roles of Bridget Jones in Amazon MGM’s Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy. Only Murders marks her third stint in television after starring in The Thing About Pam and What/If.

The fourth season of Only Murders in the Building ended with the discovery of Lester the doorman’s body found in the Arconia’s courtyard fountain. Lester has been a recurring character since the beginning of the show and has often helped the trio in their cases. He was also very well liked by everyone in the building, making his murder that much more shocking.

“In season four of “Only Murders in the Building”, our amateur podcasting trio wrestles with the shocking events at the end of season three surrounding Charles’ stunt double & friend Sazz Pataki. Questioning whether she or Charles was the intended victim, their investigation leads them all the way to Los Angeles where a Hollywood studio is readying a film about the Only Murders podcast. As Charles, Oliver & Mabel race back to New York, they embark on an even more epic journey — traversing their building’s courtyard to delve into the twisted lives of the Arconia’s West Tower residents.”

Only Murders in the Building is currently in production.
