Ridley Scott talks Prometheus and Blade Runner sequels

October 12, 2012 by admin

Despite mixed reviews, there’s little doubt that Ridley Scott’s hotly-anticipated return to the sci-fi genre delivered the goods in terms of box office for 20th Century Fox, with the divisive Prometheus banking over $400 million world-wide. With those sort of returns, you can rest assured that the studio will be keen for Scott to push ahead with his plans for a sequel, and the British filmmaker took a moment to discuss the possibilities for Prometheus 2 during an interview with Metro…

“When it comes to the Alien world, no one else had addressed the origin question and I thought that was interesting to tackle. Prometheus evolved into a whole other universe. You’ve got a person [Noomi Rapace’s Elizabeth Shaw] with a head in a bag [Michael Fassbender’s David] that functions and has an IQ of 350. It can explain to her how to put the head back on the body and she’s gonna think about that long and hard because, once the head is back on his body, he’s dangerous… They’re going off to paradise but it could be the most savage, horrible place.”

Meanwhile, Scott also took a moment to address another of his future projects, the follow-up to the 1982 cult classic Blade Runner, as well as confirming the long held belief that Harrison Ford’s Rick Deckard is infact a Replicant: “[The Blade Runner sequel] is not a rumour – it’s happening. With Harrison Ford? I don’t know yet. Is he too old? Well, he was a Nexus-6 so we don’t know how long he can live [laughs]. And that’s all I’m going to say at this stage.”

Are you looking forward to the Prometheus and Blade Runner sequels, or has Prometheus shown that Ridley should leave well alone? Let us know in the comments below…
