Roberto Orci meets with CBS over new Star Trek TV series

October 12, 2013 by admin

Back in August, Star Trek legend William Shatner spoke about J.J. Abrams’ rebooted universe, stating that he believed Trek belonged on the small screen, and now it seems that the classic sci-fi franchise may be heading back to television after all.

According to Sky News reporter Moe Michalczuk via Twitter, Roberto Orci (co-writer of Abrams’ Star Trek and Star Trek Into Darkness) has met with CBS with regards to a revived Star Trek series. Although that’s about as much as we have in the way of details, you’d have to imagine that any new series with Orci involved would take place within the rebooted timeline of the movies, even if it means focussing the show on another crew to that of the U.S.S. Enterprise.

However, before we build our hopes up too much, it should be noted that a meeting between Orci and the network does not necessarily mean they’ll be pushing development on a new series through at warp speed, although it certainly does seem time for Star Trek to return to TV, what with the last incarnation Enterprise drawing to a close back in 2005.
