Rogue One’s Chirrut Imwe is the best fighter in Star Wars according to Mark Hamill

January 12, 2018 by Samuel Brace

Mark Hamill has declared that Rogue One character Chirrut Imwe is the best fighter in Star Wars.

Star Wars is replete with intimidating fighters, including Darth Maul, Vader, Obi-Wan, Yoda, etc and so on, with so many fantastic fight sequences having taken place over the years.

Mark Hamill has been in a few of those himself as Luke Skywalker but his choice for the best warrior in all of Star Wars was actually a character from 2016’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

Speaking to Norma Jenner, Hamill was asked who was the best fighter in the Star Wars galaxy and he named Donnie Yen’s Chirrut Imwe, the blind force sensitive that fought off so many foes over the course of the movie.

“Oh gosh, [Chirrut Îmwe] in Rogue One, the martial artist,” answered Hamill, not quite remembering the name of Donnie Yen’s character in the first Star Wars anthology movie. “When I saw that, I said ‘Well, forget it. I should never pick up a lightsaber again.’ I mean, he’s just awesome… I knew I was hugely impressed.”

Donnie Yen himself was pretty flattered by the compliment and took to Twitter to show his appreciation with a simple post.

What do you think? Do you agree with Hamill or would you pick someone else as the greatest fighter in Star Wars?

From Lucasfilm comes the first of the Star Wars standalone films, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, an all-new epic adventure. In a time of conflict, a group of unlikely heroes band together on a mission to steal the plans to the Death Star, the Empire’s ultimate weapon of destruction. This key event in the Star Wars timeline brings together ordinary people who choose to do extraordinary things, and in doing so, become part of something greater than themselves.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story features a cast that includes Felicity Jones (The Theory of Everything), Diego Luna (Milk), Ben Mendelsohn (The Dark Knight Rises), Donnie Yen (Ip Man), Jiang Wen (Let the Bullets Fly), Forest Whitaker (The Last King of Scotland), Alan Tudyk (Con Man), Riz Ahmed (Nightcrawler), Genevieve O’Reilly (Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith), Jimmy Smits (Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones), James Earl Jones (Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope), Valene Kane (The Fall), Alistair Petrie (The Night Manager), Warwick Davis (Star Wars: Episode IV – Return of the Jedi) and Jonathan Aris (Sherlock).
