Rumour: CBS developing Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan prequel miniseries

August 1, 2017 by Gary Collinson

With Star Trek set to make its (hopefully) triumphant return to the small screen this September with Star Trek: Discovery, a rumour has now emerged suggesting that a second show is in the works, revolving around the fan favourite villain Khan Noonien Singh.

According to Geek Exchange, Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan director Nicholas Meyer – who was brought in as part of the writers room for Discovery – has been developing a prequel miniseries which will explore the time between The Original Series episode ‘Space Seed’ and the 1982 movie sequel.

If you’re unfamiliar with Khan’s story, he is a genetically enhanced superhuman from the 1990s who is exiled from Earth along with his followers, and discovered in stasis by the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise in the 23rd century. After a failed attempt to take control of the Enterprise, Khan is banished by Kirk onto the uninhabited world of Ceti Alpha V. However, a neighbouring planet subsequently explodes, turning Ceti Alpha V into a barren wasteland and leaving Khan and his men stranded for the best part of twenty years until they are discovered by the crew of the U.S.S. Reliant in The Wrath of Khan.
