Rumour: Justice League villain reportedly revealed

May 11, 2016 by Ricky Church

A new report from Birth.Movies.Death indicates who the villain of Justice League may end up being and it’s a character we have technically met: Steppenwolf, one of Darkseid’s main generals.

The reason I say we may have technically already met Steppenwolf is due to a deleted scene Zack Snyder released after Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’s opening weekend. The scene takes place shortly after the Doomsday fight as Lex Luthor is captured aboard the crashed Kryptonian ship, but not before he is seen communing with something through what appears to be several Mother Boxes, the devices used to communicate with and transport to Apokolips, Darkseid’s homeworld.

While the identity of this creature has not been officially confirmed, Devin Faraci does state this would be a departure from Steppenwolf’s traditional look in the comics. He also states in the film Steppenwolf “has a contentious history with Darkseid, which could be why he’s invading the Earth. But stopping him – and, I’m assuming, his Parademon hordes – requires more power than the members of the Justice League can muster, and so they must turn to a dead friend for help.” He goes on to also say that Darkseid will appear in the film, albeit at the end in order to set up Justice League Part Two.

It should be noted that Faraci’s track record with ‘scoops’ and ‘rumours’ hasn’t always panned out so for now take this information with a grain of salt until an official announcement is made by Zack Snyder and WB.

Justice League Part One will be released November 17, 2017 with Snyder directing and producing with his wife Deborah Snyder and Ben Affleck now executive producing as well as returning as Batman. Alongside him will be Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Henry Cavill as Superman, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Ezra Miller as The Flash, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, J.K. Simmons as Commissioner Gordon, Jeremy Irons as Alfred, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Amber Heard as Mera and Willem Dafoe in an unnamed role.
