The rumour mill churns out more names for Doctor Strange

October 18, 2014 by Gary Collinson

There’s been a few sites chipping in this week with shortlists for the lead role in Doctor Strange – with names such as Ewan McGregor (Star Wars), Ryan Gosling (Drive), Ethan Hawke (Sinister), Matthew McConaughey (Interstellar), Oscar Isaac (Star Wars: Episode VII), Jared Leto (Dallas Buyers Club) and Jake Gyllenhaal (Nightcrawler) bandied about – and now the rumour mill has churned a few more contenders for the upcoming Marvel movie.

According to The Wrap, Joaquin Phoenix (Inherent Vice) is still in contention for the part, while Benedict Cumberbatch (The Imitation Game) remains in the mix along with Tom Hardy (The Dark Knight Rises), Colin Farrell (Total Recall) and Justin Theroux (The Leftovers). And following his expression of interest, it’s also said that Marvel is giving some thought to Keanu Reeves (John Wick).

At this point, it’s becoming easier to track which names haven’t been linked to the role of the Sorcerer Supreme by one site or another, so hopefully we’ll get an official announcement from Marvel soon so all this incessant speculation can be laid to rest…
