Rumour: Warner Bros. worried about Batman v Superman, considering shuffle of DC movie slate

February 16, 2016 by Gary Collinson

With Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice now just a little over a month away from release, rumours continue to swirl about the big DC blockbuster.

According to Drew McWeeny of HitFix, Warner Bros. is “starting to get scared” by the movie, suggesting that “response has not been exactly what I think they wanted.”

McWeeny claims that studio executives are concerned about how the moviegoing public will react to the movie, and that it will “have to make a billion dollars for people to keep their jobs.”

He then goes on to suggest that Warner Bros. could postpone Justice League Part One, moving a solo Batman movie up into its release date of November 2017.

“I would be surprised if Justice League starts shooting when they say it’s going to,” states McWeeny. “I would be equally surprised if Zack Snyder directs it.”

Assuming the report is accurate, it’s understandable that Warner Bros. will be feeling nervous about the movie, given how much the studio has riding on it. However, it’s probably a little early to be talking major changes to the studio’s DC plans, and if Batman v Superman sets up the Justice League movie – as we are all expecting – it might seem a little strange to shoehorn a solo Batman movie in between.

Fearing the actions of a god-like Super Hero left unchecked, Gotham City’s own formidable, forceful vigilante takes on Metropolis’s most revered, modern-day savior, while the world wrestles with what sort of hero it really needs. And with Batman and Superman at war with one another, a new threat quickly arises, putting mankind in greater danger than it’s ever known before.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is set for release on March 25th 2016 and sees Zack Snyder directing a cast that includes returning Man of Steel stars Henry Cavill (Superman), Amy Adams (Lois Lane), Diane Lane (Martha Kent), Laurence Fishburne (Perry White), Harry Lennix (General Swanwick) and Christina Wren (Carrie Farris) alongside Ben Affleck (Argo) as Batman, Gal Gadot (Fast & Furious 6) as Wonder Woman, Jason Momoa (Game of Thrones) as Aquaman, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, Ezra Miller (The Perks of Being a Wallflower) as The Flash, Jesse Eisenberg (Now You See Me) as Lex Luthor, Jeremy Irons (The Borgias) as Alfred Pennyworth, Holly Hunter (The Piano) as Senator Finch, Tao Okamoto (The Wolverine) as Mercy Graves, Lauren Cohan (The Walking Dead) as Martha Wayne, Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Watchmen) as Thomas Wayne and Callan Mulvey (300: Rise of an Empire), Jena Malone (Sucker Punch) and Scoot McNairy (Argo) in as-yet-unrevealed roles.
