Ryan Phillipe to star in Shooter TV pilot for USA Network

August 7, 2015 by Scott J. Davis

Remember Ryan Phillippe, one of the “hottest” young actors in Hollywood in the late 1990s, who starred in Cruel Intentions? Well, he is back, and has nabbed the lead in Shooter, a TV pilot for USA network based on the 2007 actioner starring Mark Wahlberg, reports Variety.

Wahlberg is still involved with the small screen remake, serving as executive producer for the show, which is being produced by Paramount TV and Universal Cable Productions. As with the film, the pilot is based around the novel Point of Impact by Stephen Hunter. In the book, the lead character is Bob Lee Swagger, who is hired to stop an assassination attempt on the President, only to be framed for the crime.

“I love the character of Bob Lee Swagger and we are thrilled to have Ryan on board for the show,” Wahlberg said as part of the announcement.

The show could be set for 2016 should it get picked up after the pilot.
