Screenwriter Evan Daugherty talks G.I. Joe 3

December 6, 2013 by admin

With G.I. Joe: Retaliation pulling in $375 million around the globe, Paramount wasted little time in securing director Jon M. Chu to helm the third instalment, as well as bringing in Evan Daugherty, screenwriter of Snow White and the Huntsman, Divergent and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, to tackle the script for the threequel. Speaking to Rama’s Screen, Daugherty has briefly discussed his work on G.I. Joe 3, although he really wasn’t giving much away about the film.

“I think they gotta keep me sworn to secrecy on this one. I gotta stay quiet because I’m literally in the middle of writing it. What I’ll say for this new movie, what we’re trying to do, what I’m trying to do as a fan of the original cartoon in particular and the comic book as well – the comics are somewhat different than the cartoon – we’re just really trying to make a totally great G.I. Joe movie which to me is about a lot of action, but like a lot of fun with a sort of hint of sci-fi, an exciting world you’ve never been to. I’m excited about what the next G.I. Joe movie can be.”

At present, G.I. Joe 3 is without an official release date and no cast members are attached, although it’s thought that Paramount and Chu are keen to have Dwayne Johnson (Roadblock) and Bruce Willis (General Colton) reprise their roles from Retaliation.
