Sharknado goes global as Syfy and The Asylum start production on Sharknado 5

February 3, 2017 by Gary Collinson

Syfy and The Asylum are taking Sharknado global, announcing today that filming is now underway on the fifth instalment of the cult franchise.

Sharknado 5 is once again directed by Anthony C. Ferrante, who has helmed all four of the previous instalments in the series, and will see the return of Ian Ziering and Tara Reid as Fin Shepard and April Wexler. Cassie Scerbo is also confirmed as returning in the role of Nova.

The new film will see the world coming under threat from a global Sharknado, taking in locations such as the UK and Australia. As always, expect a host of celebrity cameos to be announced in the coming months.

Syfy scored a surprise hit with the first Sharknado back in 2013, and has since followed up with annual instalments in Sharknado 2: The Second One, Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No! and Sharknado: The 4th Awakens. Expect Sharknado 5 to hit this summer.
