Sherlock Holmes 3 is a “priority” for Robert Downey Jr.

April 23, 2023 by EJ Moreno

Robert Downey Jr. is quite the busy man, even after leaving the hectic Marvel schedule behind. But there’s still one project he has yet to return to, and fans have clamored for it.

Sherlock Holmes 3 has been in development for quite some time and even had a director attached, but it has yet to begin production. While it seems like there’s been no movement on the project for quite some time, Team Downey says it will happen and that Robert Downey Jr. wants it.

While appearing on WrapWomen’s UnWrapped this week, Team Downey producer Susan Downey opened up on where RDJ stands on the third Sherlock Holmes and how soon we could see it.

“Well, here’s what I can tell you. And Amanda [Burrell] can attest to this. Prior to this, we had lunch together with Robert, the three of us. And it was a very specific topic of conversation,” Downey said. “So yes, it is in the hopper. We’re going to do it when it’s right, with the right people, but it is a priority for the company and a priority for Robert.”

Downey notes on the complexity of bringing films like this to life, “I do know, like, there are times where just I’ve had more years of experience to know when to settle down and follow the process. Like, as much as we want to will that into existence, you have to let a couple of things happen before you do the big push, and maybe it gets there on its own.”

While Robert Downey Jr. doesn’t have Sherlock Holmes 3 on the docket yet, the actor is set to star in this year’s Oppenheimer and the Max limited series The Symapthizer. Just last month, Downey was announced to be in talks to star in a remake of Alfred Hitchcock’s Vertigo and Adam McKay’s Average Height, Average Build alongside Robert Pattinson.

“The IMAX-shot epic thriller thrusts audiences into the pulse-pounding paradox of the enigmatic man who must risk destroying the world in order to save it.”

Featuring alongside Cillian Murphy in the cast of Oppenheimer are Emily Blunt, Florence Pugh, Robert Downey Jr., Matt Damon, Rami Malek, Benny Safdie, Josh Hartnett, Dane DeHaan, Casey Affleck, Jack Quaid, Matthew Modine, Dylan Arnold, David Krumholtz, Alden Ehrenreich, David Dastmalchian, Olli Haaskivi, Jason Clarke, James D’Arcy, Michael Angarano, Guy Burnet, Danny Deferrari, Matthias Schweighöfer, Gary Oldman, Harrison Gilbertson, Emma Dumont, Devon Bostick, Trond Fausa, Christopher Denham and Josh Zuckerman.

Oppenheimer is set for release on July 21st, 2023.
