Sigourney Weaver talks Ghostbusters 3, confirms Oscar will be a Ghostbuster

Last weekend saw the 30th anniversary of Ivan Reitman’s comedy classic Ghostbusters, but the third entry in the franchise is perhaps one of the longest gestating movies in Hollywood development. Despite being in play since the early 90s, Ghostbusters 3 is yet to go into production. Ivan Reitman has ruled himself out of directing after the death of Harold Ramis and the latest rumour is putting Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland) in the director’s chair.

However, one thing we now know for sure is that Oscar, the son of Dana Barrett, will be one of the new Ghostbusters. At least according to Sigourney Weaver.

The Aliens actress said in an interview with Vanity Fair while discussing returning for a third outing: “I said, ‘I have one condition. I want my son Oscar to be a Ghostbuster’, and he said, ‘We’ve already done that.'”

Oscar was last seen in 1989’s Ghostbusters II where he was the target of Vigo the Carpathian who was looking to be reborn from his painting prison.

Weaver also seems to say in that quote that she is also returning for the movie. She will join Ernie Hudson (Winston Zeddemore) and Rick Moranis (Louis Tully) who have both expressed an interest in returning to the iconic franchise and it is expected that Dan Aykryod will return as Dr. Ray Stanz. However, it is still likely that Bill Murray will not return as Peter Venkman.
