Simon Pegg talks Quentin Tarantino’s Star Trek: “It won’t be ordinary”

May 15, 2018 by Matt Rodgers

As Simon Pegg gears up for press duties on both Margot Robbie thriller Terminal [read our review here] and blockbuster sequel Mission: Impossible: Fallout, he’s been speaking to ComingSoon.net about another of his film franchises; Star Trek. Specifically his involvement as a writer/producer, the news that S.J. Clarkson will direct the next film, and Quentin Tarantino’s “idea”.

When asked whether he’d had a chat with the Kill Bill director about his plans to boldly go, Pegg responded:

“Everyone sort of assumes it’s gonna be like Pulp Fiction in space, but I think his devotion to Trek and his understanding of it… It won’t be ordinary, it’ll have him all over it, but it won’t be anything a Star Trek fan will have to worry about. He has an acute understanding of the story and he’d never do anything to tear it down. I haven’t read the treatment yet, but I might be able to in the next couple of weeks, so I’m excited about that.”

Having written the script (alongside Doug Jung) for Star Trek Beyond, Pegg also added “I’m not developing the next Star Trek at all. The script for 4 is being written by [J.D.] Payne and [Patrick] McKay”, but did go on to praise the news that a Star Trek film will be directed by a woman for the first time, responding to S.J. Clarkson’s hiring with “Oh yeah, that’s just great. I’m thrilled about that, it’s gonna be fantastic. It’s belated, but it’s very welcome.”

Star Trek 4 will be another instalment in the Kelvin timeline where the cast of the Starship Enterprise will time travel. Early indications are that it will see Chris Pine’s Captain Kirk attempting to reunite with his father, played by the returning Chris Hemsworth.
