Sinister’s Scott Derrickson and C. Robert Cargill to adapt Joe Hill’s The Black Phone

October 29, 2020 by Gary Collinson

According to a report from Discussing Film, director Scott Derrickson is teaming with his Sinister and Doctor Strange screenwriter C. Robert Cargill for an adaptation of Joe Hill’s The Black Phone at Blumhouse.

Published in Hill’s 20th Century Ghosts short story collection, the synopsis for The Black Phone reads:

John Finney is in trouble. The kidnapper locked him in a basement, a place stained with the blood of half a dozen murdered children. With him in his subterranean cell is an antique phone, long since disconnected…but which rings at night, anyway, with calls from the dead.

The project will mark Derrickson’s return to horror for the first time since 2014’s Deliver Us From Evil, and it is expected to be his next feature. A production schedule is yet to be worked out however due to the ongoing global health crisis and Derrickson and Cargill’s other commitments which include a Bermuda Triangle thriller with Chris Evans and a sequel to the classic 80s fantasy Labyrinth.
