Fox has cancelled the supernatural drama Sleepy Hollow after four seasons. The network made the decision after a ratings slump with its lowest-rated season yet this year. The fourth season came back with a 13-episode order, down from the usual 18 of the previous season, meaning the writing was pretty much on the wall for the show’s future.
Sleepy Hollow saw Ichabod Crane resurrected in 2013 to renew his battle with the Headless Horseman. Together with officer Abigail Mills, they fought off hordes of demons to stop the Horseman and his evil master from bringing about the end of the world.
The show faced some changes throughout its time on television, including a change of showrunner and the departure of Nicole Beharie as Mills in the third season finale, leaving a very different fourth season in its wake. One of the other challenges for Sleepy Hollow in its fourth season was the move to Friday nights, a tough spot for any TV show that usually tracks low numbers.
