Smallville was supposed to have a Justice League spin-off

September 1, 2016 by admin

During the sixth season of Smallville, we got a hint that Oliver Queen might form a version of the Justice League with Superman, The Flash, Aquaman, Cyborg and – of course – Green Arrow. Well Daredevil showrunner Steven DeKnight announced on Twitter last night that the plan was for Justice League to be a spin-off show set in Metropolis.

Little known fact: @justinhartley and I almost did a proto-Justice League series for CW. Oh what might have been! https://t.co/ll7cMevHGC

Looking to find more information, Craig Byrne of Kryptonsite delved further into the spin-off by speaking with DeKnight directly.

“The idea was that Oliver Queen was basically giving refuge to young people with superpowers, kind of in a Professor X kind of way, putting together this team and also trying to help out these people, like he says in ‘Justice’ about how he helped out Victor Stone and Bart and Arthur Curry,” he said. “I had a master plan for Brainiac showing up in the spin-off that I won’t tell you what it is,” he said, “because you never know, a spin-off may happen in the future, and I will use this. But it was awesome.”

Sadly the show fell apart, and Smallville ran further than the planned end of season six. “I was supposed to co-create it and run it, so I’m doubly sad. We were all really excited about it, you know, me and the other actors. We all got along great. We really wanted to make this show, and we thought it would be really, really cool.”

Are you sad we didn’t get to see Justice League in the Smallville universe?
