Soldiers: Heroes of World War II gets a new update 20 years after launch

January 22, 2025 by Andrew Newton

More than 20 years ago Soldiers: Heroes of World War II arrived on PC, allowing players to take part in the battles of the Second World War.  This title sparked off what was to become the critically-acclaimed Men of War series.  Now, more than 20 years after its initial release, developer Best Way and Fulqrum Publishing have announced a brand-new update that brings the game into the 2020’s.

This new update introduces many quality-of-life improvements that help bring this game into the present day. These improvements include the ability to launch the game naturally on Windows 10, the removal of StarForce DRM protection, Steam achievements, Steam multiplayer support and Steam support for modding.  There has also been a number of graphical improvements made, such as 4K support and widescreen monitor support, an upgrade to DirectX 9, aspect ratio fixes, mission intros and much more.

Soldiers: Heroes of World War II allows players to take control of British, Soviet, American or German forces and fight through a number of battles by directly controlling them with the keyboard and mouse.  There’s a wealth of authentic weapons and vehicles for players to control and a variety of detailed terrain to fight over, from coastal waters to the villages of Normandy.

The game features:

  • Command or commandeer more than 100 vehicles and weapons that have been recreated to be as authentic as possible.
  • Players can fire from cover or hide from the enemy using interactive scenery.
  • More than 30 intense missions to fight through.
  • Take direct control with each unit in RTS-style gameplay.
  • Defeat devious AI enemies as they use actual battlefield tactics to counter your plans.

Soldiers: Heroes of World War II is available on Steam and GOG at an epic 85% discount for a limited time.  Other titles in the series are also available with a discount.
