Sony snaps up the rights to Robin Hood reimagining Marian starring Margot Robbie

March 7, 2017 by Amie Cranswick

Sony has snapped up the rights to the hot spec script Marian from newcomer Pete Barry, which will reimagine the Robin Hood legend and sees Maid Marian succeeding Robin after the folk hero is killed in battle. Suicide Squad star Margot Robbie is attached to play Marian, and she is also producing through her LuckyChap Entertainment production company.

Described as “Braveheart meets Game of Thrones“, the storyline for Marian is as follows: “After a conspiracy to conquer England in which the love of her life Robin Hood dies before her eyes, Marian picks up the cause to lead her people into a pivotal war. She comes to power, charging into a battle that will not only decide the fate of the kingdom but will see her don the mantle of the man she loved. In the process, she rises as a legend herself.”

Robbie is currently working on the Tonya Harding biopic I, Tonya, and has several other projects incoming including the untitled A.A. Milne project (a.k.a. Goodbye Christopher Robin) and live-action/CG-hybrid Peter Rabbit movie. She will also reprise the role of Harley Quinn for David Ayer’s Gotham City Sirens, and presumably Suicide Squad 2.
