SPOILERS: And the post credits scene for Kong: Skull Island is…

March 2, 2017 by admin

Obviously, plenty of spoilers below. Like, loads.

Kong: Skull Island hits cinemas next week, but we here at Flickering Myth we’re lucky enough to attend its European premiere in London’s Leicester Square. It was very fancy.

Anyway, you want those post credit spoilers, don’t you?

This is your last warning…

So, on a black screen, Tom Hiddelston’s James Conrad asks, “why are you sitting in the darkness? Are you enjoying this?” (which is a fun joke about people waiting for the post credits). He’s actually talking to people behind a two-way mirror. It’s revealed that he and Brie Larson’s Mason Weaver are in an interrogation room at Monarch, promising they won’t tell the Russians about the island or what they saw.

In walks Houston Brooks and San who reiterates John Goodman’s Bill Randa’s point from earlier in the film: this is their world and they want to take it back. They tell Conrad and Weaver that Kong is not “the only king” on this planet, and they show slides of other findings. First is the nuclear blast that created Godzilla (as seen in the 2014 film), and this is followed with photos of cave paintings of Rodan, Mothra and King Ghidorah. The final slide shows a cave painting of Godzilla and King Ghidorah fighting, setting up Godzilla: King of Monsters which is out in 2019.

The screen cuts to black with Godzilla’s famous roar playing out.

From a personal standpoint, this is the most exciting post credits since Samuel L. Jackson asked Robert Downey Jr. about the Avengers Initiative.

Kong: Skull Island is set for release on March 10th, 2017 with Jordan Vogt-Roberts directing a cast that includes Tom Hiddleston (High-Rise), Brie Larson (Room), John Goodman (10 Cloverfield Lane), John C. Reilly (The Lobster), Thomas Mann (Me and Girl and the Dying Girl), Corey Hawkins (The Walking Dead), Toby Kebbell (Fantastic Four), Jason Mitchell (Straight Outta Compton), Samuel L. Jackson (Avengers: Age of Ultron), John Ortiz (Silver Linings Playbook) and Shea Whigham (Cop Car).
