Star Wars characters to appear in The LEGO Movie?

November 22, 2013 by admin

The Wall Street Journal has reported that even though Star Wars characters are owned by Disney and The LEGO Movie is owned by Warner Bros., a few of them might be making appearances in the upcoming animated film.

The article speculates that since The LEGO Movie has been in development since before Disney’s purchase of Lucasfilm that it’s possible the deal was put in place prior.  Lucasfilm and LEGO have a good working relationship, certainly more so than rivals Warner Bros. and Disney.

If true, I’m sure Disney isn’t too upset about Star Wars characters being in The LEGO Movie, since they need to make a franchise that’s been through ups and downs relevant again on the silver screen ahead of Star Wars: Episode VII in 2015.

The LEGO Movie is set for release on February 7th in North America and February 14th in the UK, with a voice cast that includes Chris Pratt (Guardians of the Galaxy), Will Ferrell (Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues), Morgan Freeman (The Dark Knight Rises), Liam Neeson (Taken 2), Elizabeth Banks (The Hunger Games: Catching Fire), Will Arnett (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles), Channing Tatum (21 Jump Street), Cobie Smulders (How I Met Your Mother), Jonah Hill (21 Jump Street), Nick Offerman (Parks and Recreation), Charlie Day (Monsters University) and Alison Brie (Community).
