Star Wars: The Last Jedi’s Rian Johnson is not involved with writing Star Wars: Episode IX

April 27, 2017 by Gary Collinson

Back in June 2014 when it was first announced that Rian Johnson had signed on to write and direct the now-titled Star Wars: Episode VIII, it was also said that the Looper director would also provide a treatment for the final chapter of the Sequel Trilogy, Star Wars: Episode IX.

Well, it seems that plans have changed since then, as Johnson has confirmed on Twitter that he’s had no involvement with the writing of Episode IX:

So, it looks like the task of writing Episode IX has fallen solely on the shoulders of Safety Not Guaranteed and Jurassic World scribes Colin Trevorrow and Derek Connolly. Trevorrow of course is directing the film, which will reportedly begin production in June.

Star Wars: Episode IX is set for release on May 24th, 2019, while The Last Jedi will be with us on December 15th this year.
