Stephen King adaptation Doctor Sleep officially rated R

August 22, 2019 by Liam Waddington

As a surprise to no-one, Doctor Sleep, the adaptation of Stephen King’s novel and sequel to Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining, has been officially rated “R” for “disturbing and violent content, some bloody images, language, nudity, and drug use,” confirms director Mike Flanagan.

Shortly after the announcement of the official rating, Flanagan responded with a tweet saying “sounds about right.”

The supernatural thriller is set 40 years after the events of The Shining and stars Ewan McGregor as Danny Torrance, who after living a peaceful life as a hospice worker, is forced to use his powers against a cult named the True Knot and their leader (Rebecca Ferguson) who hunt down children with ‘the shine’ in order to feed off their powers in a quest for immortality.
