Stephen King’s 11/22/63 heading to Hulu courtesy of J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot

September 23, 2014 by Gary Collinson

Back in April 2013, it was revealed that J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot production company was developing a TV adaptation of Stephen King’s 2011 novel 11/22/63, and now it has been announced that Hulu has placed an order for a nine-hour event series. Hulu will handle U.S. distribution, and Warner Bros. Worldwide Television Distribution will distribute globally.

11/22/63 tells the story of high school English teacher Jake Epping travels back in time to prevent the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, but his mission is threatened by Lee Harvey Oswald, his falling in love, and the past itself… which doesn’t want to be changed.

“If I ever wrote a book that cries out for long-form, event-TV programming, 11/22/63 is it,” states King. “I’m excited that it’s going to happen, and am looking forward to working with J.J. Abrams and the whole Bad Robot team.”

“I’ve been a fan of Stephen King since I was in junior high school,” adds Abrams, who is currently in the UK shooting Star Wars: Episode VII. “The chance to work with him at all, let alone on a story so compelling, emotional and imaginative, is a dream.”
