Steven Knight is almost finished writing Peaky Blinders film script

January 5, 2024 by Ricky Church

Though Peaky Blinders may have ended its critically acclaimed six-season run last year, series creator Steven Knight is hard at work on developing a feature film that will continue the stories of Tommy Shelby and the Peaky Blinders in Birmingham. After teasing it even before the series ended, Knight has revealed he is almost done working on the film’s screenplay.

In an interview with RadioTimes, Knight revealed he’s currently finishing the “final bits” of the screenplay and he hopes production will begin in the middle of 2024, likely giving it a summer start date.

“I’m just working on the final bits of it at the moment,” Knight stated. “I just sit down at the keyboard and start. It’s a bit like having a dream, for me. You sit there and all this stuff comes, and then you read it back and think, ‘That’s pretty good — but where did it come from?’ The plan is to start shooting that in the middle of next year.”

Peaky Blinders followed the rise of the Peaky Blinders gang led by Tommy Shelby (Cillian Murphy) during the first half of the 20th Century in Birmingham, England. The ensemble cast has included the likes of Helen McCrory, Paul Anderson, Sophie Rundle, Sam Neill, Annabelle Wallis, Iddo Goldberg, Tom Hardy, Charlotte Riley, Finn Cole, Natasha O’Keeffe, Paddy Considine, Adrien Brody, Aidan Gillen, Anya Taylor-Joy, Sam Claflin, Amber Anderson, James Frecheville and Stephen Graham.

Since its premiere in Peaky Blinders received much critical acclaim and nominations at various awards ceremonies, winning several of those awards for Best Drama, Cillian Murphy as Best Actor and the late Helen McCrory as Best Actress. In addition to the upcoming film, Netflix recently announced development of two spin-off series.
