According to Variety, Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Partners has snapped up the rights to Tony Lunedi’s The Spire in the Woods, a ghost story that began life as a 10-part story on Reddit’s NoSleep subreddit.
The project will be retitled The Bells, and follows “a teen boy searching for the cause of a friend’s suicide, who finds himself captivated by the same alluring but deadly ghost story, as he digs deeper.”
Amblin has tapped Roy Lee (The Ring, The Grudge) and Jon Berg (Justice League, Aquaman) to produce the feature film, with Spielberg attached as executive producer.
Spielberg is currently prepping for his remake of the classic musical West Side Story, after which he is expected to reunite with Harrison Ford on Indiana Jones 5. He is also attached as executive producer to Men in Black: International and Cats, both of which are set for release this year.
