Stranger Things: Catalyst VR launches at Sandbox VR venues

October 20, 2025 by Andrew Newton

Sandbox VR has today announced that the highly anticipated fully immersive VR game Stranger Things: Catalyst is now available at Sandbox VR locations worldwide. Made in collaboration with Netflix, this new VR experience will see players become test subjects to Dr Brenner, with Matthew Modine reprising his iconic role.

With Stranger Things: Catalyst, explore the sinister hallways of Hawkins National Laboratory, the Rainbow Room, the eerie woods of Mirkwood, and the nightmarish Upside Down as test subjects of Doctor Brenner. As test subjects, players will have access to terrifying telekinetic powers, and just like Eleven, use these abilities to throw objects, demolish obstacles and fight supernatural creatures like the Demobats, Demodogs and the Demogorgon.

Trapped as a test subject is no fun, so it’s up to players to escape from the Hawkins National Lab, discover the mysteries the lab holds, and learn the limits of their supernatural abilities.

As well as escaping the lab, players will have to suffer a few nosebleeds (not literally), as the rift to the Upside Down has opened and the enemies are coming through, threatening not just the players but also all of Hawkins. Work together to end the threat and save the town.

“The launch of Stranger Things: Catalyst represents the culmination of our most ambitious collaboration with Netflix yet,” said Steve Zhao, Founder and CEO of Sandbox VR. “By creating an entirely new chapter in the Stranger Things universe, we’ve crafted an experience that goes beyond anything fans have seen before. Our technology allows players to truly embody the supernatural powers they’ve watched on screen, creating unforgettable moments as they face the thrills of the Upside Down alongside their friends.”

Stranger Things: Catalyst follows previous collaborations with Netflix – Squid Game Virtuals and Rebel Moon: The Descent. Visit your nearest Sandbox VR for a stranger experience.
