Superman: Legacy finds Lex’s henchwoman Eve Teschmacher in Sara Sampaio

November 21, 2023 by Ricky Church

Just a day after DC Studios co-head and Superman: Legacy writer/director James Gunn found his Lex Luthor with Nicholas Hoult, it looks like the role of Lex’s henchwoman has been filled. According to Deadline, Sara Sampaio (At Midnight) will portray Eve Teschmacher in the film.

Eve Teschmacher was a character created for Superman: The Movie in Richard Donner’s 1978 classic which starred Christopher Reeve in his iconic role as the Man of Steel. Played by Valerie Perrine, Ms. Teschmacher was Lex Luthor’s right-hand woman and love interest, though as the film revealed she is not nearly as cold-hearted as Luthor as she helps Superman escape Luthor’s Kryptonite trap so he could prevent two nuclear missiles from striking the US – one of which would have killed her mother. Perrine portrayed Teschmacher again in Superman II where she helped Luthor break out of jail.

In the Supergirl TV series, she was portrayed by Andrea Brooks where she again helped Luthor in his schemes for world domination. And though she did not appear in Smallville, the character Tess Mercer’s name was a reference to Teschmacher as well as being a composite character of her, Lex’s bodyguard Mercy Graves and sister Lena Luthor.

The official synopsis states Superman: Legacy “tells the story of Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas. He is the embodiment of truth, justice, and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.”

Superman: Legacy stars David Corenswet as Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern/Guy Gardner, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho and María Gabriela De Faría as The Engineer.

Superman: Legacy is scheduled to open in theaters on July 11th, 2025.
