Superman sequel Man of Tomorrow will soar in 2027

September 3, 2025 by Ricky Church

After Superman flew into theatres this summer to much positive acclaim from audiences and critics, Warner Bros. Discovery has announced writer/director James Gunn will helm the sequel Man of Tomorrow for a 2027 release.

David Corenswet will return to play Clark Kent/Superman as will presumably Nicholas Hoult as his archenemy Lex Luthor. Gunn shared an image on social media by DC artist Jim Lee showing Corenswet’s Superman alongside Hoult’s Luthor, only the latter is donned in his battle armour he typically wears when he personally fights Superman and other heroes. Along with the picture was the sequel’s release date of July 9, 2027.

Gunn has previously teased that he was writing a follow up that will focus on the ‘Super-Family’. The next feature film in Gunn’s DC Studios slate is Supergirl starring Milly Alcock following her cameo appearance in Superman which sets up her film and due for release on June 26, 2026.

No other cast has been announced yet, but it is safe to assume Rachel Brosnahan will also reprise her role as Lois Lane in Man of Tomorrow, and will likely be joined by many of the other supporting characters introduced in Superman.

“Superman tells the story of Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas. He is the embodiment of truth, justice, and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.”

Written and directed by James Gunn, Superman stars David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern/Guy Gardner, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, María Gabriela De Faría as The Engineer, Sean Gunn as Maxwell Lord, Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., Milly Alcock as Supergirl, Wendell Pierce as Perry White, Beck Bennett as Steve Lombard, Mikaela Hoover as Cat Grant, Christopher McDonald as Ron Troupe, Terence Rosemore as Otis, and Pruitt Taylor Vince and Neva Howell as Jonathan and Martha Kent.

Man of Tomorrow will fly into theatres July 9, 2027.
