Sylvester Stallone reveals Escape Plan 2 title, teases a third movie

March 22, 2017 by Justin Cook

If you still don’t believe that Escape Plan 2 is actually on its way, look no further than a short set video recently posted on Instagram by star Sylvester Stallone to give you proof. In the video, Stallone not only reveals that filming has already begun, but takes viewers behind the scenes and spills some details about the upcoming sequel to the 2013 action thriller, which starred him and Arnold Schwarzenegger.

With his face doused in action movie appropriate makeup, Stallone starts off the video by introducing two new additions to the film’s cast, Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy) and Jesse Metcalfe (God’s Not Dead 2), before unveiling “a tough robot” that plays a major part in a brawl during the film’s ending.

Just as he signs off, Stallone hints at another installment in the franchise, saying Escape Plan 3 might be on the way; additionally, the post’s description reads, “I got a feeling they may be wanting to do a third one pretty soon… Count me in.”

Word of an Escape Plan sequel last month was surprising enough, since Escape Plan seemed like more of a one-and-done popcorn movie than an actual franchise, so a third film certainly isn’t a done deal. To boot, while the movie made its money back, it was by no means a breakout hit, grossing a modest $137 million on a $50 million budget.

There’s no real reason to believe that a sequel would perform better, especially considering that Stallone certainly can’t bring in crowds like he used to, Schwarzenegger’s involvement is still up in the air and Escape Plan didn’t really have a ton of staying power with audiences who checked it out four years ago. Summit Entertainment most likely isn’t going to move on Escape Plan 3 in any major way until Escape Plan 2 comes out and is either a success or failure.

Lastly, the caption reveals the official title for the sequel. The post reads, “On location filming EXCAPE PLAN 2 HADES WITH Dave Bautista and Jesse Metcalfe … The scene was interesting challenge and turned out great … the film it really has a lot of energy and action Very glad to be part of it.”

Despite a rather nonchalant title announcement, it seems as if Escape Plan 2 will have the subtitle Hades. Watch the video for yourself below…

Escape Plan: Hades will be directed by Steven C. Miller and hit theaters in 2018. Joining Stallone, Bautista and Metcalfe will be cast members 50 Cent, Jaime King and Gordon Michaels.
