Taika Waititi wants to return to the Marvel Universe, would love to direct another Thor film

October 25, 2017 by Jordan Jones

Thor: Ragnarok is beginning its worldwide roll-out this week, and the word on the street is very very positive. With that said, it’s safe to say that this film, just like Patty Jenkins with Wonder Woman, will open up a lot of doors for director Taika Waititi. So, what would he like to do next? There is that Akira remake that he’s all-but-confirmed to direct. We also know that he is not keen on directing any film set in the Star Wars universe. What else?

Talking to Radio Times, the Thor: Ragnarok director revealed that he would actually like to come back to Marvel, and tackle another Thor film:

“I would like to come back and work with Marvel any time, because I think they’re a fantastic studio, and we had a great time working together. And they were very supportive of me, and my vision. They kind of gave me a lot of free reign, but also had a lot of ideas as well. A very collaborative company. I’d love to do another Thor film, because I feel like I’ve established a really great thing with these guys, and friendship. And I don’t really like any of the other characters.”

Taika Waititi has proven that he is a good fit for Marvel, and the Thor franchise. It wouldn’t be a surprise in the slightest to see him attached to another Marvel Studios project in the near-future. Though, it would be interesting to see him tackle another hero this time around.

In Marvel Studios’ “Thor: Ragnarok,” Thor is imprisoned on the other side of the universe without his mighty hammer and finds himself in a race against time to get back to Asgard to stop Ragnarok—the destruction of his homeworld and the end of Asgardian civilization—at the hands of an all-powerful threat, the ruthless Hela. But first he must survive a deadly gladiatorial contest that pits him against his former ally and fellow Avenger—the Incredible Hulk.

Thor: Ragnarok is being directed by Taika Waititi (What We Do in the Shadows) and features a cast that includes Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Anthony Hopkins as Odin, Idris Elba as Heimdall and Mark Ruffalo as the Hulk, Cate Blanchett as Hela, Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, Jeff Goldblum as the Grandmaster, Karl Urban as Skurge, Taika Waititi as Korg, Clancy Brown as Surtur, Rachel House as Topaz, Tadanobu Asano as Hogun, Ray Stevenson as Volstagg and Zachary Levi as Fandral.
