Taron Egerton wanted for Elton John biopic Rocketman

July 21, 2017 by Gary Collinson

According to The Daily Mail, Taron Egerton could be set to take on the role of Elton John in Rocketman, a biopic of the legendary musician which would reunite the Kingsman star with Eddie the Eagle director Dexter Fletcher and producer Matthew Vaughn.

Egerton – who will next be seen in Vaughn’s spy comedy sequel Kingsman: The Golden Circle – is said to have held informal talks with Fletcher and Vaughn after Tom Hardy exited the project.

Rocketman has been in development for several years now, but was put on the fast track following conversations between Vaughn and Elton John on the set of the Kingsman sequel, in which the singer has an extended cameo.

According to the report, the film will explore the entertainer’s life in and out of the spotlight and “examine how he has become one of the best singer-composers of all time and how he has retained his fame in spite of scandals.” It will be a co-production between John’s Rocket Pictures and Vaughn’s Marv Films.
