The Big Bang Theory reportedly ending due to Jim Parsons

August 24, 2018 by Gary Collinson

A couple of days ago it was announced that CBS’ smash hit sitcom The Big Bang Theory is set to end with its upcoming twelfth season, despite the fact that earlier reports had suggested preliminary talks were underway with the cast about a potential renewal.

Well, according to Entertainment Weekly, the reason for the show’s end is because Jim Parsons, who portrays the character of Dr. Sheldon Cooper, was ready to walk away from the series, turning down a contract that would have secured him over $50 million for a further two seasons (a figure that his co-stars Johnny Galecki, Kaley Cuoco, Kunal Nayyar and Simon Helberg also stood to make).

With Parsons unwilling commit, the decision was made to call time on the long-running series, rather than attempt to continue without its star attraction in Sheldon. As so, as a result, the now final twelfth season of The Big Bang Theory will get underway on Monday, September 24th.
