The Boys receives official season 2 renewal from Amazon

July 21, 2019 by Gary Collinson

We’re still a week away from its premiere, but it seems that Amazon is confident it has a hit on its hands with its upcoming comic book adaptation The Boys, as the show has received an earlier season two renewal.

The announcement was made during its panel at the San Diego Comic-Con International, which was attended by executive producers Seth Rogen and Erik Kripke along with stars Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Antony Starr, Erin Moriarty, Jessie T. Usher, Laz Alonso, Chace Crawford, Tomer Capon, Karen Fukuhara, and Elisabeth Shue.

Meanwhile, during the panel we also received confirmation that Aya Cash (You’re the Worst) has been cast in the second season as Stormfront, a character who in the comic books is described as “an unrepentant bigot, an alumnus of the Hitler Youth, and one of the most powerful superhumans on earth.”

In a world where superheroes embrace the darker side of their massive celebrity and fame, THE BOYS centers on a group of vigilantes known informally as “The Boys,” who set out to take down corrupt superheroes with no more than their blue-collar grit and a willingness to fight dirty. THE BOYS is a fun and irreverent take on what happens when superheroes – who are as popular as celebrities, as influential as politicians and as revered as Gods – abuse their superpowers rather than use them for good. It’s the powerless against the super powerful as The Boys embark on a heroic quest to expose the truth about “The Seven,” and Vought – the multi-billion dollar conglomerate that manages these superheroes.

The Boys premieres on July 26th on Amazon Prime and features a cast that includes Karl Urban (Thor: Ragnarok), Jack Quaid (The Hunger Games), Karen Fukuhara (Suicide Squad), Laz Alonso (Traffik), Antony Starr (American Gothic), Dominique McElligott (The Last Tycoon), Chace Crawford (Gossip Girl), Erin Moriarty (True Detective), Jessie T. Usher (Independence Day: Resurgence), Elisabeth Shue (Leaving Las Vegas) and Nathan Mitchell (iZombie).
