The Deep Blue Good-By halted due to Christian Bale’s injury

April 26, 2015 by Scott J. Davis

The Hollywood Reporter has revealed The Deep Blue Good-By has been delayed due to a knee injury to its star Christian Bale (The Dark Knight Trilogy).

Bale tore his ACL in this knee just prior to shooting his latest film, The Big Short. However, the physical demands that would have come from Good-By were too much for the actor to undertake with his injury, having required some big action set-pieces aboard boats.

James Mangold, who directed Bale in 3.10 To Yuma, was set to direct the film, which had already cast Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones) and Nicola Peltz (Transformers: Age of Extinction), and was all set to start shooting in May in and around Puerto Rico and Florida.

What happens with the film in the future remains to be seen, with sources in Hollywood saying the project is either dead or merely postponed until a new date for those involved can be settled upon. However, it is understood that Bale is pretty booked up over the next year, and director Mangold is set to direct comic-book sequel The Wolverine 3 with Hugh Jackman also on his upcoming slate

The site does go on to say that the producers of the film did try to gain a new star for the film, with Brad Pitt coveted, but Pitt too has a jam-packed schedule, including co-starring with Bale on The Big Short, which is now filming under the direction of Adam McKay (Anchorman 2).
