The first Paralympics game, The Pegasus Dream Tour, coming to mobiles this June

May 18, 2021 by Andrew Newton

JP Games has announced they will be releasing the first ever official game for the International Paralympic Committee, The Pegasus Dream Tour, on Android and iOS.  This upcoming game will release on 24th June, shortly ahead of the actual Tokyo Paralympics, and is an avatar RPG taking place in an online virtual city called Pegasus City with its own special mayor, Doraemon.  See more in the announcement trailer below…

Players will be able to create their avatar, called a ‘Mine’, which can be generated using selfies taken from their phone and take them into Pegasus City.  Upholding the values of the International Paralympic Committee, players will be able to give themselves with prosthetic arms, legs and wheelchairs and take part in a variety of para-sports including the precision-ball-sport boccia, football 5-a-side, athletics and wheelchair basketball.

Players will also be able to explore the city and create friendships with others as well as taking part in a number of tournaments and how a Mine has spent their day will be reported to players on a daily basis.

The game also features nine of the world’s top para-athletes who will be able to interact with players, five of which are contracted by Bridgestone, the first sponsor of the game.  These para-athletes include: Takayuki Hirose (Boccia / Japan), Patrick Anderson (Wheelchair basketball / Canada), Holly Robinson (Javelin / New Zealand), Silvio Velo (Football 5-a-side / Argentina), Manami Tanaka (Wheelchair Tennis / Japan), Kohei Kobayashi (Badminton / Japan), Rie Ogura (Badminton / Japan), Scout Bassett (Athletics / USA) and Chaiwat Rattana (Athletics / Thailand).

“The format of The Pegasus Dream tour, which was originally planned to be a “Para-Sports RPG” was switched to that of an “Avatar RPG” in the wake of the global pandemic and the postponement of the Tokyo 2020 Games. This is because I felt that the Tokyo Paralympics, which would be held after the postponement, could allow humanity to overcome their divisions and help bring our spirits together. No matter what the outcome of the Tokyo 2020 Games is, it is my wish that people everywhere will come and receive the positive energy that is abundant inside Pegasus City.” – Hajime Tabata, CEO of JP Games.

IPC Brand & Communications Officer Craig Spence says: “We are greatly excited about The Pegasus Dream Tour launch on June 24 as it will help the Paralympic Movement connect and build engagement with new and younger audiences, as well further increase Para sport awareness ahead of Tokyo 2020.  We want all gaming and sports enthusiasts to pre-register already for this ground-breaking video game, which will see people from across the world virtually coming together and being able to enjoy the Paralympic Games in a whole new, innovative and fun way.”

“I am very happy to announce that Doraemon has been appointed as the Acting Mayor of Pegasus City. I’m probably more nervous than he is, but I’m sure he’ll do a great job. I can’t wait to see Doraemon inside Pegasus City. I hope you feel the same way too and are looking forward to meeting your new acting mayor, Doraemon.” – President & CEO Kazuhiko Akatsu.
