Warner Bros. invited fans back into The Matrix this week with the release of the first trailer for The Matrix Resurrections, the fourth instalment in the iconic sci-fi action series. And, while the trailer certainly posed plenty of questions, do too does the new official synopsis – most interestingly, the lack of any mention of The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions, and the specific mention of continuing the original movie. So, might we be getting some kind of Halloween-style direct sequel to the first movie? Some major retconning? Or is this just Warner Bros. not wanting to remind people that Reloaded and Revolutions actually exist?
We’ll likely have to wait until December to know for sure, but one question we do have an answer for is the identity of Watchmen and Candyman star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II’s character, with the actor confirming via Instagram that – as long rumoured – he is indeed portraying Morpheus, played of course by Laurence Fishburne in the original trilogy…
