Protagonists live and breathe by the obstacles they face – if you don’t have a tough antagonist, your hero’s adventure is boring, plain and simple. And considering how expensive animation can get, you can bet a lot of storytellers have worked to ensure their villains were memorable.

Because of this, many cartoons from the past had genuinely memorable criminals that were both exhilarating and exciting to watch on-screen.
